It is uncertain how new technology and changes within the industry will affect journalism and the people who work in this sector.
The NUJ estimates that freelancers and those working in micro-businesses make up more than a third of the journalism workforce.
Through their members the NUJ identified ‘a clear demand for training in IT and internet-related subjects and, in general, we can predict a constant if not growing demand for training within these areas as they increase in technological complexity and journalistic importance’.
Northern Edge project activity will seek to address these type of needs through a project delivered in the North sometime this autumn, around October or November, watch this space.
